Jazz Clubs in Wroclaw

incognito

If you like Jazz, you can spend time in some cool places in Wroclaw. There is a fantastic atmosphere there with fantastic sounds and an unusual atmosphere.
Below are a few suggestions where every fan of such climates will find something for themselves including live concerts.

Vertigo Jazz Club & Restaurant

vertigo

Vertigo Jazz Club & Restaurant is the home of music. A place where her fans feel at home. The club – the only one in Wroclaw and the whole region, elegant, cozy and open to everyone – has been prepared with care and attention to every detail. Vertigo Jazz is associated with what is best in Jazz, in art and in life. The concerts and exhibitions organized under the club’s name serve this purpose.

Incognito Cocktail Bar

incognito

Speakeasy (hidden in a restaurant) hidden in the Bistro Garage. Premises Offers a private atmosphere and professional bartending and waiter service. A great place to meet in a narrow circle of friends and spend time in a cozy atmosphere.

Collosseum Jazz Caffe

collosseum

Collosseum Jazz Caffe in Wroclaw is one of the few (if not the only) place called the Jazz club. Currently, there are two levels in the club, on one there is a balloon room, and on the other there is a concert hall. A great place to relax even during the week, because you can drink hot tea, or coffee and listen to good live music, Jam Session is often organized here. If we do not have the opportunity to bring our equipment, it is already in the club seeded and waiting for someone who will show what he can do.

Music Club LIVERPOOL

liverpool

The place departs from Jazz climates but it is worth recommending. The club is located in the basement of a historic building, so it has its own natural decor and atmosphere, good acoustics and strong sound system. In Wrocław, the club has made a place for people who like strong sounds, but it also does not shy away from calmer events presenting music for connoisseurs, for example evenings with blues-rock, progressive and art-rock music, as well as jazz or funk. Liverpool became known in Poland from the organization of the gathering of fans – there were all-Poland The Cure, Depeche Mode, U2 and Rammstein gold rallies, which attracted crowds of fans from all over Poland.

Murals in Wroclaw – how to paint your city

Murals in Wroclaw

Murals in Wroclaw

Murals around us… Are you sometimes wondering around the city, looking at the grey and dirty walls of blocks and empty buildings? Are you even looking up while wondering via city? In Wroclaw there is a good reason for looking up and on the walls. There is a place on Roosevelt Street where it seems that murals are covering almost all the walls. This street is one of most unforgettable and absorbing experiences. But if you make sure to look around while walking around you’ll notice that murals in Wroclaw are quite common feature of the city, next to the dwarfs.

Generalnie dramat

While coming by train to the city you can see one of the murals in Wroclaw, the painting of a woman sitting in a chair with the text “generally drama”. It’s probably one of mine favorite ones out there, maybe because artist could capture the tiredness and the air of overall lack optimism of the woman they painted.

.

Strange people

On the crossroads with Braniborska street, near the Swiebodzki train station, there is unexpected painting covering not very high wall of the building with garages or stores. Another unexpected sight will meet us while wondering near Odra. In a small backyard between block of flats, there is some amazing painting covering another wall. It gives a simple yard quite a twist.

Ruska street

Of course, the Ruska street is one of the most famous and the most colorful places with murals in Wroclaw you can find. The whole backyard was turned into magical place with amazing and unforgettable paintings.  Joined forces of the residents of the blocks around and Wroclaw’s artists from OKAP (Backyard’s Cultural Animation Center) created Murals on Ruska street.

They created something that’s definitely on all maps of murals in Wroclaw. Now this street is one of the most famous and attended places. What I do recommend is to walk around looking around. Not only for dwarfs which are attention grabbing but for murals in Wroclaw. Some of them are inspiring, some are quite obscure and some are simply beautiful making the city much more colorful.

Why we love Tamka?

Tamka Island ART HUB x CLUB

A few words about the place:

Tamka Island is one of the smallest Odra islands. Art Hub was created on five levels: the space in the building is shared with artists and friendly initiatives. It is treated by the owner as an artistic project outside of the purpose of co-creating various events taking place there. Art Hub is to be a platform on which not only all artists can gather, but also act together. In the building, in addition to the studio, there is a club and a bar (cafe). The common part in which takes place weekend cultural events, has been renovated.

The remaining rooms are in turn renewed by the creators working in them. It is a combination of a club and space for rent for studios, and offices for artists. There is also a photo / video studio available in the building, Music studios, photo studios, event agency, art gallery or Capoeira Academy. As part of electro jam you can also listen to (or create yourself) live improvised electronics. And this is end of introduction word.

Basic information

So first of all , where is Tamka? Tamka is in center, between Wroclaw University and Slodowa Island. Open Hour? Since 12:00 until last guests actually, sometimes we can go to the party at Friday evening, and get back home at Sunday afternoon.

Where to go for a short vacation trip from Wrocław?

http://sokolowsko.info/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/sokolowsko_0361-600×400.jpg

The city is nice but hey! It is summer, time for a trip.
If You are searching for a little rest, nature, mountains, art and music-  Sokołowsko might be great place for You. It is not that far from Wrocław. You only need two days off,  backpack and a train ticket. Oh, and friends to share great moments with.

HISTORY OF SOKOŁOWSKO

Until the mid-nineteenth century  Goerbersdorf- a small mountain village did not differ in any way from other villages belonging to the Hochbergs. In 1845, countess von Colomb came here for a vacation. She was enchanted by the landscape and convinced by the uniqueness of the place so she persuaded her brother-in-law  Dr Hermann Brehmer
to create a health resort there. In 1945, in honor of the count’s friendship with Professor Alfred Sokołowski, the village received a new name – Sokołowsko.
In 1855 Sokołowsko became a place of the world’s first specialist tuberculosis sanatorium. After World War II, the spa was reclassified from the tuberculosis profile to the treatment profile for respiratory diseases. In the following years, attempts were made to create a Provincial Winter Sports Center. Unfortunatelly it turned out to be a costly undertaking and the implementation has never been completed.
In October 2005, the inhabitants of Sokołowsko heard an explosion,
a moment later the building was consumed by a fire. The fire burned the whole roof of the sanatorium building. The wooden elements disappeared, the vaults collapsed, the wall and ceiling paintings were burned.
A new, surprising chapter in the history of Sokołowsko was the purchase of the object by the Contemporary Art Foundation, which main goal was to rebuild the burned Sanatorium of Dr. Brehmer and create the International Laboratory of Culture there.

NEW LIFE OF SOKOŁOWSKO WITH “IN SITU” FOUNDATION

In Situ Foundation, which means “in place” was founded in 2004 in Podkowa Leśna by artists Bożenna Biskupska and Zygmunt Rytka. “In situ is an activity in a place that, no matter where it is located, can become an art space. In Situ initiates the possibility of creation of infinite permutations, number of solutions and searches, creates
a field and the conditions for action and the interpenetration of time, space, people and various areas, and above all, create zones for a free creative and scientific research process.”- tells Bożenna BiskupskaIn 2012, the headquarters from Warsaw were moved to Sokołowsko. Along with the new president, Zuzanna Fogtt, new goals have been defined: “Creating space for the implementation of international artistic projects, diverse and interdisciplinary creative activities, research, meetings, confronting views, exchanges and experiences, as well as popularizing innovative artistic attitudes.”

ACTIVITIES, ART, FESTIVALS

The cyclical activities of the In Situ foundation include: Ephesus Art Festival Konteksty/The Contexts, Hommage à Kieślowski, Sanatorium Dźwięku/ Sound Sanatorium.

SOUND SANATORIUM

In Sokołowsko, postmodern chaos arose from a mixture of Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings, and the fauna and flora of the mountain landscapes proved to be the perfect basis for the experimental music festival – Sanatorium Dźwięku – a festival created by Zuzanna Fogtt and Gerard Lebik. The festival presents a wide spectrum of musical forms of the XX / XXI century – concerts, realizations from the border of sound art, interdisciplinary performance. The festival takes place in Health Kinoteatre in Sokołowiec, in the Multimedia Hall, Spa Park, but also within the ruins of the nineteenth-century sanatorium. Every year, the festival attracts hundreds of music lovers from around the world. The fifth edition of the festival did not receive funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, therefore the foundation conducts a fundraising campaign from voluntary donors, so that this year the patients could come to the music session to the Sanatorium Dźwięku.

HOMMAGE A KIEŚLOWSKI

Three-day celebration for the greatest cinema enthusiasts, especially Kieślowski’s films, but also those “after Kieślowski”, ie debutants, students of film schools, directors and directors who created after 2000. Away from the urban momentum Sokołowsko becomes a meeting place for film creators and recipients, it gives the opportunity to meet famous actors, directors and interact with them in the extraordinary beauty of landscapes “For three festival days, we propose discussions, introductions to films referring to the spirit of the DKF and promoting cinema as a place to broaden the horizons of thought, putting into question our own, often unfair or outdated opinions.”. The festival program is divided into three parts. Documentary cinema “Without fiction”, a European feature film “Re: Interpretations” and Kieślowski’s films, meaning “Hommage and Kieślowski.” Film screenings are intertwined with a discussion between film scientists, philosophers, filmmakers and the audience. Kieślowski said: “Live and look carefully!”

The festival realizes this idea.

THE CONTEXTS

Festival of Ephemeral Art. Performance art festival. With this project, the In Situ foundation proves once again that art can be at the fingertips of every human being. Periodically the performers of the performance and its recipients gather in Sokołowsko. They are looking for the answer to the question: “Is art a foreign body in society or maybe its integral element? ” Apart from the world-famous artists during the Konteksty Festival, there will also be a place for the” Open Platform “, a section enabling young artists to present their realizations.

There are 3 pubs for gamers in Wroclaw, that I know of. If you are a gamer and want to spend quality time in a geeky place with your friends, Wroclaw has some very interesting options for you. Whether you want to organize a big meeting or just spontaneously go to a nerdy place, these are the places you can check out:

Padbar – the first pub for gamers in Poland

Padbar was founded in 2011. In time, it branched to three other cities. You can play here on an Xbox in beat’em ups and play FIFA with your friends, try the wide range of drinks and play board games for free. There’s also a Padbar Club. For 30 zlotys you can buy a membership card and gain points. For every 5 zł that you spend you gain points, that you can exchange for free drinks. I’ts good to make a reservation ahead of time, because of the sheer popularity of this place.

Location: Kazimierza Wielkiego Street 1 in  Time’s building

Site: http://wroclaw.padbar.pl/kontakt/

Cybermachina – franchise nerd pub

Cybermachina was opened in back in 2015. It’s the largest chain of pubs for geeks in Poland, it has a total of 8 locations in the country. There’s a wide variety of drinks, that reference pop culture. They have Czech and regional beer, you can also eat some snacks and toasts. There are many consoles, arcade games and board games free of charge.

Cybermachina has game tournaments, as well as regular sporting events (such as football matches on TV). Sometimes they also organize small meetings for people working in the gaming industry in Wroclaw. They are called Pog(R)adajmy and you have to check their Facebook page for more details. You have keep in mind that they close fairly early. Usually opening hours span from 2 pm to 1 am.

Hex – cafe mixed with pub for the board games enthusiasts

On the occasions they organize Hearthstone tournaments – but you have to bring your own Smartphone or laptop to play. Sometimes they have special workshops for people interested in learning how to play board games. Also you can check out prototypes, that upcoming creators bring to the cafe. They even have their own game, called “Tawerna Hex”. You can also drink some niche beer and eat different meals. Hex is usually open to guests from 3 pm to midnight, but you have check whether they have spare seats before, because of the various events.

Great Polish references

Throughout history there have been many people who have made history worldwide to excel in their work and lead an exemplary life.
Many of them are of Polish origin:

In Art:   Stanisław Wyspiański

Stanisław Wyspiański (January 15, 1869, Kraków – November 28, 1907, Kraków), was one of the most versatile and outstanding artists of his time, in Europe, as this painter, architect and cabinetmaker, was also a playwright Polish very influential.

Born in Krakow, Stanisław Wyspiański was the son of Franciszek Wyspiański and Maria Rogowska (who died of tuberculosis in 1876). His father was a sculptor without reputation, of bourgeois origin, with problems of alcoholism, and it is not known if he promoted the first steps of his son. Of course, Stanisław, when adopted by Joanna Stankiewiczowa and her husband, who had contacts with artists, was able to study painting, literature and history with important figures of Krakow’s life.

Sport: Robert Lewandowski

Born in Krakow, Stanisław Wyspiański was the son of Franciszek Wyspiański and Maria Rogowska (who died of tuberculosis in 1876). His father was a sculptor without reputation, of bourgeois origin, with problems of alcoholism, and it is not known if he promoted the first steps of his son. Of course, Stanisław, when adopted by Joanna Stankiewiczowa and her husband, who had contacts with artists, was able to study painting, literature and history with important figures of Krakow’s life.

After being the top scorer of the third and second division of Polish football with the Znicz Pruszków, he moved to the First Division Lech Poznań team, where he won the Ekstraklasa 2009-10 and was also the top scorer of the maximum Polish soccer category .

In 2010, he was transferred to the German Borussia Dortmund run by Jürgen Klopp for 4.5 million euros, where he won several titles including two consecutive Bundesliga. Before the start of the 2014-15 season, he signed for what had been a direct rival for Dortmund in recent seasons, Bayern Munich, with which he won the Bundesliga 2014-15 in his first season.

Music: Chopin

Frédéric Chopin was born in the village of Żelazowa Wola, in the voivodeship of Mazovia, 60 kilometers from Warsaw in central Poland, on a small estate owned by Count Skarbek, who was part of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw. He received the name of Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin.

He was a Polish composer and virtuous considered one of the most important in history and one of the greatest representatives of musical Romanticism. His perfect technique, his stylistic refinement and his harmonic elaboration have been compared historically, for his lasting influence in the music of later times, with those of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms or Franz Liszt.

in Religion: Juan Pablo II

John Paul II (in Latin: Ioannes Paulus II), 4 of secular name Karol Józef Wojtyła5 (Wadowice, Poland, May 18, 1920-Vatican City, April 2, 2005), was Pope 264 of the Church Catholic and sovereign of the Vatican City from October 16, 1978 until his death in 2005. He was canonized in 2014, during the pontificate of Francisco.

Having been auxiliary bishop (since 1958) and archbishop of Krakow (since 1962), he became the first Polish pope in history, and in the first non-Italian since 1523. His pontificate of almost 27 years was the third longest in the history of the Catholic Church, after that of St. Peter (it is believed that between 34 and 37 years, although its exact duration is difficult to determine) and that of Pius IX (31 years). John Paul II was hailed as one of the most influential leaders of the twentieth century, remembered especially for being one of the main symbols of anti-communism, 8 and for his fight against the expansion of Marxism in places like Latin America, where he fought energetically to the known movement as the theology of liberation, with the help of his right hand and ultimately his successor, Joseph Ratzinger.

Art Hotel Wroclaw – good accomodation in the city center

Art Hotel Wroclaw - Great localization in the very heart of Wrocław, a few dozen meters from the Market Square

Delicious, family and classy in Wroclaw

Art Hotel Wroclaw is the perfect place for people that want to discover this beautiful city. Great localization:

  • in the very heart of Wrocław,
  • a few dozen meters from the Market Square,
  • next to the beautiful street Kiełbaśnicza
  • and the historic gallery Jatki.
  • Close to city hall, various institutions and business.

Both public opinion and guests give it great recognition. That’s why Art Hotel was given the title of Travelers Choice.

Art Hotel Wroclaw also incloudes the Art Restaurant and Café with unimaginably delicious food. Located just next to the Market Square, in a beautiful, Renaissance tenement from the 16th century, it constantly enraptures guests with butiful insides  and unique menus.

– We believe that the unique visual setting creates the perfect scenery for tasting dishes and desserts served by us, taken mainly from Polish cuisine. We also use the richhness and taste of regional and traditional products, offering culinary memories from Dolnego Śląska – they say about themselves.

A unique interior in Art Hotel Wroclaw

The friendly atmosphere is created by a carefully arranged, subtle in colors interior decor – in the Flemish-style main halls, in the Garden Hall in the style of the Italian courtyard. It is here that you can admire the original stone portal and antique door from 1520, as well as painting on boards from the eighteenth century.

Delicious cuisine

A unique advantage of the menu in the Art Restaurant are regional products. It is worth knowing that the kitchen belongs to the European Network of Regional Culinary Heritage. I especially recommend the dish from Kłodzko trout, which is certified as ” Dziedzictwo Kulinarne Dolny Śląsk”. Homemade pasta and dumplings “jak u mamy”, in this kitchen are used modern culinary techniques that provide a wealth of natural flavors. In Art Restaurant you can try dishes made in the sous vide technique.

A glass of wine to taste

Selected wines from the wine list can also be ordered by the glass. For regular customers, their favorite wines are ordered, even if they do not appear on the wine list. And if you have your favorite wine, or you got a unique bottle as a gift? Take it with you and enjoy the taste of culinary Art Restaurant specialties. For opening your own wine, you will only be charged 20 PLN per bottle. IT’S NOT EVERYTHING!

Plan time with your family

Art Restauracja i Kawiarnia also includes: Free WiFi, unique sweet pastries from our own confectionery, diet menu, for example gluten-free (after previous order), summer garden, additional children’s menu card, children’s chair, bibs, special cutlery, crayons and coloring books.
